Probably Not Good

I’ve been having odd neurological symptoms as of late:menschliches nervensystem

  • I’m still getting regular headaches, almost daily. Some of them are rather intense, but I’m not sure if the others are low intensity or if I got used to them.
  • My arm pain is still really intense still… but a little tiny bit better because I’ve been taking Tramadol regularly. I can’t stand nerve pain like that. Unfortunately, my left arm has started to get a lot of the same symptoms (tingling, numbness, elbow pain, and neural tension). At least the left arm isn’t as intense as the right. (arm 1, 2, 3)
  • My nausea seems to be getting worse. I don’t know if that is from my nervous system or something else. (nausea 1, 2, 3)
  • The thoracic vertebra (the ones at the ribs) pop constantly, and painfully. I think my spine is compressing for some reason.
  • Muscle weakness is getting a lot worse for some reason. I’m exercising a bit more, but it feels like I’ve been exercising less.
  • My muscles burn every time I stretch them. Even if I stretch them after sitting on the couch or lying down. I don’t know why my muscles are always burning like this when I stretch them.
  • Dizziness is coming back slightly, though my cardiologist’s MA thinks it might be from my body adjusting to the fact that my resting heart rate is now in the upper 60s now that it’s controlled.

As you can see, troublesome. Continue reading

Yoga and Painting = My Saturday

Yesterday, was a lot of fun! Exhausting, but definitely worth it 🙂

First, we did restorative yoga. Over the course of an hour, we only did about 6 positions, holding each one for quite some time. Apparently, it’s supposed to be good for fibromyalgia sufferers because of the use of props and such (according to The Chopra Center). restorative-yogaUnfortunately, my body didn’t seem to like it much. I think it’s because my body hates staying in one position for very long, and that always aggravates my fibro. It was, however, good for my P.O.T.S since it was all done lying down and there was no physical exertion. Well, I was having to spend a lot of physical and mental energy relaxing the muscles that my body refused to relax (new ones would tense up during poses and so it was a constant game of tag around the muscles). It was nice, however, because being on the floor and using all of the props made some positions a lot easier. I just wish my body was okay with holding positions for long periods of time. I’m definitely feeling it today.

Then…

The Snooze Button

When I wake up, I hit snooze until I get out of bed. The amount of times I’ve dozed off and missed something is embarrassing. Today, I’ve hit snooze for almost two hours… Oops. But it goes to show how much energy chronic pain can take out of you. I’m exhausted. I got over 9 hours of sleep.

Crazy Weather = Crazy Body

I’ve been in a LOT of pain recently (see “Why Today is a Bad Health Day“). I thought it was from the nerve massages and being far too busy, but now I don’t think so. I’m still in a lot of pain, and my appointment with Joleen on Monday was really gentle, and I slept most of yesterday.

Why Today is a Bad Health Day

I’ve still been having nerve pain in my arm. Joleen worked on it a ton on Friday (I had to reschedule because of the bronchitis, I didn’t want to get people sick since I was still coughing Monday). I thought it’d be okay, but I should have known better; nothing good can come of an hour of nerve massage on a fibromyalgia patient. My muscles feel bruised (she had to work out some knots she thinks are being caused by the nerve pain), my ribs feel bruised, and I vaguely feel like I got bruised in general.

Last week, I also did too much. Way too much! (read more)

I wanted to share a few photos from our trip to Beaver Creek with the in-laws 🙂 The people that went were: Becky (my mother-in-law), Shelby (sister-in-law), Jimmy (Shelby’s boyfriend), Dave (brother-in-law), Claire (Dave’s roommate), Dan, and myself. We got up there Saturday afternoon, and just hung out at the condo and had a nice dinner. Sunday (Jan 3) we went ice skating, then went tubing at Vail. Monday we went skiing. Tuesday we checked out about 10 and drove home!

Nerve Pain

I’ve just recently gotten back from my appointment with Joleen (I did a one-on-one not class today). For a few weeks now, I’ve been struggling with nerve pain in my arm. Joleen and I have been working on trying to stretch my median and ulnar nerves, in both arms actually, because they are too tight (which is causing the pain and numbness). The pain, however, is excruciating. We try very hard not to push too hard, but we do have to stretch and massage the nerves. My fibro, I think, makes this a lot harder. I always have to suffer after these appointments. However, I am making minuscule improvements.

Making Lizz Stronger with Pilates

I’m so crazy sore from skiing on Monday! I used muscles I haven’t really used in three years. Ouch! The last time I went skiing was March 2013. Crazy how many unique muscles it uses! Thankfully, it’s just the type of sore from working out hard, not from fibro or anything like that! Pilates helped me dramatically. I don’t think I could have lasted as long as I did if I hadn’t been doing Pilates. Seriously, Pilates is changing my life in so many amazing ways! Everyone should try it!!!!

In fact, I was able to do a Pilates reformer class today (a gentle one called “Pilates for Recovery” led by Joleen). I was completely shocked I was able to do everything! Sure, some of my range of motion was restricted so I could maintain proper form (fatigued muscles get super shaky), but I didn’t have to completely sit out anything. Joleen was even impressed at how well I did!

This is a reformer.

The class was fantastic and relatively easy. It gave me a good workout, but in a very gentle and accessible way. I think I’m going to add it into my weekly routine; I’ll have to discuss with Joleen if she thinks I could do that. So, hopefully, I will be doing Pilates Beginner Mat class every other Monday (or two Mondays in a row) alternating with private sessions, then Pilates Reformer for Recovery every Wednesday. I’m also hoping to add back in the biking on Fridays. My body finally seems to be getting stronger and more capable! I’ll keep ya’ll posted of course.

Mini-Vacation

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know I’m up skiing for a few days, so I probably won’t be able to get much posted for the next few days… of course, I didn’t get a chance to schedule posts before I left. I did bring my computer, so I might get a chance. Otherwise, it’ll have to wait until Wednesday!

Goodbye 2015…

I can’t believe 2015 is already almost over!!!! There are 3ish hours left, and a few minutes (number will continue to change until I publish, so no point haha).

Let’s take a quick look back at my year, if my brain fog will let me.
