The Quote Collector

My Writing 101 assignment for Friday was to start my post with a quote. I collect quotes. While many of the quotes I collect are because they inspire me, they don’t inspire me in ways I can really write about. Many of them just stir up deep emotions that make me feel like I should do something. I do love quotes though; I love that they can tell me what I’m feeling when I don’t have the words, or that they help me figure out what I’m feeling, or that they can guide me towards how I want to be feeling. These are some of my favorite quotes that I’ve collected recently:

Natural Therapy

Oh man, do I miss hiking. Dan and I used to go hiking all the time. We both used to go hiking all the time long before we met each other.

day 4 imageFor me, nature was always a kind of natural medicine. I’ve struggled with depression for most of my life, but being out in nature… well, that was a different story. Hiking out into the trees, getting away from people, getting away from cars, getting away from noise, it always calmed my soul down. I love the smell of pine trees, especially in the cool air, and the sound they make when the wind blows through them. It really is amazing how fast it can work. I have gone hiking because I was angry, because I was sad, just because I felt the need to, and it is almost always immediate. The second I’m into nature, I start to feel a change. Everything in my body relaxes. My breathing slows and deepens. My brain actually shuts off and focuses for once. I feel relaxed and happy.

25 Little Things That Make Daily Life Fantastic

The prompt from Writing 101 was to make a list of some sort. Originally, I was going to make a list of how my life had changed due to chronic illness… but then I realized how depressing that list was going to be. Living with chronic illness is challenging, at best, and can make it impossible to see the good in life. So, I decided my list needed to be happy. A major change is how much time I have to stay at home, and how trips and adventures have had to move to the back burner. I spend most of my time at home. Because I spend so much time at home, I decided to focus on what I love about my daily life. So here it is:

Why Do I Write? A Crazily Long Answer

Why Do You Write?

Wow, that is quite the question, isn’t it?

Well, I tried to answer it on The Story of the Silver Sun and What’s in a Name? pages. However, I also tried to keep those descriptions succinct so that people would actually read them. Let me see if I can elaborate. (I may repeat myself a little, as you may notice if you read those pages, so please be patient. I’m just going to tell the whole story.)

Working on Writing 101

So I’m enrolled in the Blogging U Writing 101 and Blogging 201 courses. I really want to stick with the Writing 101 course, if nothing else, so expect some prompted posts from that. Even if I can’t make a post fit perfectly with my normal blog material, I will probably still try to complete it and post it. I love writing, and all writing is great practice. So here I go, off on an adventure!

(First prompt was sent out last night. I’m starting to work on it now, so hopefully I’ll have it up in a few hours.)

The Ear Saga Continues -&- Crazy Allergies -&- Functional Medication

So, as I mentioned earlier: I have another ear infection. Yes, another one. Yes, the same ear that was just operated on. Yes, the same ear that has pretty much been non-stop infected since mid-March. Yes, I’m about to rip it off and throw it out the door and make it fend for itself.

ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!

Yes, in simply naming this post “ARGHHHHHHHH” because it’s the only thing that fits. I suppose I could have put “holy duckling dam” as well, which is what I sent my friend because I’m trying to cut back on swearing. Anyway. Why the frustration?

I HAVE ANOTHER EAR INFECTION!!!!

I am so over even having a left ear.

Luckily, it didn’t sound like this one should be too bad. The doctor said I just have a few spots of irritation which are weeping, and the ooze is what is infected. I start eardrops again today. I also now am under orders to point a hairdryer into my ear (from 12″ away) for a full minute to dry it out.

Can my ear just get better already? This is ridiculous. At this point, I’m just going to start classifying this under “chronic.” ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

GI Appointment: New Medication, More Testing

I went to my gastroenterologist today. The appointment’s purpose was to follow-up on my eosinophilic esophagitis, which is actually doing a lot better on the ranitidine and on the rotation diet. I’m hoping it continues to improve as my allergens die off. We have also been working on doing a thorough clean of our house, which we just haven’t gotten a chance to do since we moved in (we do clean, just not a thorough job around the whole house every time). I am going to go see Dr N tomorrow (allergist) and I’m going to ask for specifics on the testing (like what chemical they tested for the “house dust,” even though he only did food he should know), so hopefully I’ll know exactly what I need to know to better control this EoE thing. Right now, not having throat spasms daily and not having choked in months is a plus! A huge plus!
